DIY Natural Home Cleaners

I have been buying natural home cleaning products for years now and have found they work just as well and can leave your house smelling clean and natural without the toxic residue.

Environmental Working Group’s investigation of more than 2,000 cleaning supplies on the American market has found that many contain substances linked to serious health problems including; asthma, cancer, chemical burns, allergies and poisoning. Yikes!

We take such care in selecting the food we put into our bodies, but these toxic everyday products in our home are often overlooked. It only makes sense to look closer at these products and begin to purchase or make clean cleaning products to minimize our exposure to toxic chemicals.

If you’re not into making your own cleaners, some of my favourite green cleaning products are Seventh Generation All Purpose Cleaner, ECOS Toilet Cleaner and Seventh Generation Laundry Soap.

For those of you looking to make your own cleaners, I’m pretty excited to say that, it is much easier than you think. The main base I use on my countertops and floors, is vinegar, water and an antimicrobial essential oil of choice. Here are a few of my favourite recipes.

Tea tree, native to Australia, is actually one of the most important natural antiseptics. It’s antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral actions make it the perfect addition to your own home cleaning products.

Not only is lemon a great support during cold season due to its high levels of vitamin C, its also a handy addition to any home cleaning products. Particularly because of lemons antibacterial and antiseptic actions. I love keeping my lemons in a big bowl on my kitchen counter, to add a touch of bright, vibrant colour.
